Frequently Asked Questions….

Who are we?

Inspiring Girls is an international charity, dedicated to raising the aspirations of young girls around the world by inspiring and empowering them to believe in their dreams. We do this by connecting them with female role models from diverse backgrounds - we want to show girls the limitless possibilities in their future careers, whilst breaking inherent gender and cultural stereotypes.

What does Inspiring Girls do and how?

Inspiring Girls empowers young women by connecting them with diverse female role models. Our carefully curated program features modules focused on various themes designed to help girls discover their identity, build confidence, and boost self-esteem. Through age-appropriate activities and affirmations, we foster personal growth and development. Our role models share their inspiring career journeys and experiences, creating meaningful connections with girls both online and in-person, within schools and workplaces.

What is a Role Model and why should I sign up to be one?

You don't need to be extraordinary to be a role model; simply be yourself. Your unique story, career path, and experiences can have a profound impact on young girls. As a Role Model, you'll inspire them to break free from gender and cultural stereotypes by sharing your journey.

You'll have the opportunity to connect with girls in schools or online, discussing your career choices, experiences, and how they've shaped you. By becoming a Role Model, you'll not only fulfill your sense of social responsibility but also rediscover your passion for your industry. Witnessing the positive impact you have on these girls as they progress through our program will be incredibly rewarding.

I have signed up as a Role Model, what are the next steps?

Once you sign up, you'll receive a welcome newsletter from us. This will introduce our program and provide essential information. Next, you'll be invited to attend our induction training. These online sessions are held monthly, and we have a calendar of dates for you to choose from.

Completing the induction training is mandatory to participate in the program. Once you've finished, you're ready to start joining the modules with the girls!

How much time do I need to commit as a volunteer?

The program is split into 5 modules per school. You are welcome to participate in one or more modules and with different schools but Inspiring Girls is an opt-in approach - there is no minimum or maximum requirement so you can work it around your schedule.

How do I sign up for a module?

We'll send you an email newsletter with all the details about each module, including the date, time, location, and any language requirements. All our modules are registered on Eventbrite, and the email invite will include a link to secure your spot. Remember, spots are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis!

We'll aim to send module invites approximately 4 weeks in advance, giving you time to plan your schedule. We'll also send a reminder closer to the date if your availability changes.

What do I need to prepare for each module?

After you sign up for a module, you'll receive a confirmation email with a link to preparation materials. These materials will help you get ready for the session. The specific requirements will vary depending on whether the module is online or in-person. You may need to prepare a short presentation in your preferred format or bring printed materials.

We keep the preparation work to a minimum to ensure you can focus on engaging with the girls and having fun!

Do I have to commit to all modules?

No. You can simply register only for the sessions that work for your schedule - it’s an opt-in approach.

When do the modules usually take place? How long do the modules last?

We organize 1-2 activities in schools per week from September to May. Each module lasts 1-1.5 hours. You're also invited to attend our graduation ceremony and career fair in May.

Who will host the modules?

The host facilitates a smooth flow of the modules. This role can be filled by Inspiring Girls staff or fellow role models. We encourage new Role Models to participate in modules first to gain a better understanding of the program before hosting sessions. If you're interested in becoming a host, please contact us.

Is it possible to work with the girls on a one-to-one basis?

As you work with the girls, you may develop individual relationships. If you're interested in offering one-on-one support, please let us know. We'll add your profile to our library, allowing girls to select the most suitable role model. We'll also help coordinate a mutually agreeable form of contact.

If a girl expresses interest in working with you specifically, we require consent from all parties involved: you, the parents, and the teachers.

Do I have to work with the same school or can I volunteer for more than one?

You can work with as many schools as you'd like, or focus on a single school. We'll send you invitations to all modules (language permitting), and you can choose which ones to attend. If your schedule is busy and you need to skip a few sessions, that's perfectly fine! Remember, our approach is opt-in, and we appreciate your time and commitment.

I have signed up for a module but can no longer make it, what should I do?

We understand that schedules can change. If you need to cancel a session, please let us know as soon as possible. You can email us directly or cancel your attendance through Eventbrite.

Am I given training as a Role Model and training to work with different age groups?

You're required to attend your initial induction training, but you're welcome to join future sessions as often as you like. We're currently developing a guide to assist you with different age groups. Some of our modules already specify age-appropriate activities and target audiences.

I can’t speak Cantonese. Can I still become a Role Model?

Yes, we're seeking role models who can speak English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. Our schools are both local and international, so we host modules in different languages. We'll always specify the language requirement on the module invite.

I have started attending online modules, but some of the girls won’t turn on their camera in our Zoom session, what should I do?

Relax! Remember, these are young girls exploring their identities and may have low self-esteem and confidence. Build rapport by breaking the ice and engaging with them personally. Learn their names and ask them questions directly to make the session fun and interactive. Once the girls trust you, they're more likely to turn on their cameras and participate fully.

Are there any other ways I can support Inspiring Girls?

Yes, there are many ways to get involved! We're always seeking donors, sponsors, and corporate partners. Our offers girls on-site experiences through company visits and work experience. If you or your workplace can provide these opportunities, please reach out to us.
